SweatIT ALLSTARS AT THE SOAPBOX

WHAT A DAY!

Local businesses of the Tunbridge Wells area were invited to the challenge of the Soap Box Race, heading down a steep slope to the finish for fasted time. With over 22 other competitors, the day was packed full of excitement. Spectacular kart designs from Minions to planes - some serious effort went into the making of these vehicles. Not to mention the supreme effort to organise the logistics of the venue and entertainment by the Soap Box staff.

The SweatIT squad arrived at Dunorlan Park in the early hours of Saturday morning with a ready race car, glamorised by the Sticky Monkey Group. We were painted slick green with some superb vinyl graphics for the winning design.

The crew were gathered together to sign their lives away and receive the full debrief from Ms Chatty Hatter herself, Nicole Piesse Turner. Teams gathered to make their final adjustments to their karts and discuss tactics for their descent.

SweatIT were 11th on the list, enticing a huge crowd to cheer them on down the track. The fearless driver Jemma, co-pilot Abi and engines Jed and Tom did not disappoint. Their flawless run fast-tracked them to second place, advancing them to the next round.

Soap Box provided live music entertainment and vendors to offer delicious refreshments in the interlude whilst opening the opportunity for local schools to partake in the junior races.

The anticipation for SweatIT to continue its near-perfect performance was fast approaching - the speedy start gave Jemma and Abi the boost to clear jumps one and two. Jemma’s skilful driving avoided haybale collisions and drifted them around the last corner to the finish, awarding the team the top position in the semi-finals and the fastest time of the event.

The girls went head-to-head with Edenbridge Garage Boys for the final race. The boys had a speedy run. SweatIT had one last chance for the win. It was not to be - just a few seconds slower meant a well-deserved second place.

This event was truly one to rave about. A chance to be creative, daring and collaborate with other local businesses - all in aid of collecting charity donations to fund Pickering Cancer Centre, Hospice in the Weald, Nourish Community Foodbank and our charity of choice, Children’s Respite Trust.

With the help of our supportive community, we’ve currently raised £735 but we’d like to get to £1000 :)

Would still like to donate?

The team are extremely grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an amazing event and wants to give special thanks to the Chatty Hatter team for their effort in organising such an amazing day. We look forward to next year to raise more money and add another trophy to the gym’s mantle piece.

Head to their socials to check out their details and see video evidence of the team tearing up the race track.
